We are a family of five, consisting of Alfons and Gabi and their two sons Joschi and Dominik plus Dominik’s girl-friend Katrin. We have been devoted to Newfoundland dogs since 1990. We live in happy chaos with eight Newfs and two Carthusian cats in a small village near Dingolfing in Bavaria (only about one mile from the motorway A92).

Every year, we look forward to our puppies and raise them with absolute devotion. Our puppies are born in our living room and are fully integrated into our family from the beginning. When they are about four weeks old, they move into the “puppies’ house” with their mum, where they get in contact with the other four-legged members of the family but stay within sight and earshot. During their daily visits to our house and garden they learn, among many other things, what a tractor, a truck, a car or a motorcycle is, how to get accustomed to a vacuum cleaner, and how to behave towards cats.

Our puppies learn to enjoy being put on a grooming table and being groomed. When they are seven weeks old, they wear a collar for the first time (although grudgingly!) and make their first trip to our neighbours and in a car. Some of them have already met their new owners by then.

In short, all of us, including Joschi’s girl-friend Alex, are there for our puppies around the clock. Thus we make sure that we can give their new owners, preferably families, very good-tempered, self-confident and well socialised little Newfies.

It is very important for us to always keep in touch with the new owners of “our puppies” and to watch attentively how they grow up. So our “Newfoundland family” gets bigger every year, and we are happy about everyone who pays us a visit.

In addition we organize walks and get-togethers where we show, for example, other Newfy owners how to properly groom their Newfies and how to handle them in the show ring. We are always glad to support and advise others who are interested in presenting their dogs at dog shows.

Going to dog shows is another passion of ours. From January to December, you can find us at national and international dog shows in Germany and Europe. On these occasions we have made many contacts – and many friends – with other breeders and dog owners from all over Germany and from abroad. When we do not spend the weekend at dog shows, our house is mostly full with other Newfy enthusiasts like us.

Why don’t you also come and see us some time?

Gabi’s brother has also been infected with the “Newfy virus”:
